“Art will save the world.” These words introduce the Rostock-born artist’s short self-portrait on her website. A sentence that arouses curiosity, perhaps also because of the power of an artist who herself approaches her work with genuine interest, that dwells in it: “We are here to be creators. The act and process of making something that is new and at the same time creating something that has always been there anew is my interest.” Figurative, metaphorical sculptures of heroines old and new provide a formative insight into her craft and the creative power that comes with it.
Stella Dutz was born in 1985. As a young woman, traveling, working, and creating led to her three-year stone sculpture apprenticeship in Dresden starting in 2007, before which she graduated from the Fachgymnasium für Gesundheit und Soziales in Greifswald. For four years after living in Dresden, Stella Dutz moved through Germany and Europe, working as a journeywoman, starting in 2010. From 2014 to 2017, the artist continues her education in Leipzig to become a creative educator, an inspiring path leading from traditional wandering to art pedagogy and the birth of her first child, and eventually to self-employment as a sculptor. Since then, Stella Dutz has been happy and successful in her profession.
