The wood sculpting freelance artist Tim Weigelt was born in Jena, Thuringia, in 1976. Early on, he discovers a passion for two things: wood and the sea. Despite being a “Mittelgebirgs-
bewohner”, he says, he feels connected to the sea and the water. When looking at his works, Tim Weigelt wants to provoke a smile. Anyone who encounters his work will find that he succeeds masterfully.
In 1995, Tim Weigelt graduated from high school and started an apprenticeship as a carpenter. After one year, he changed to the university and signed in at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena for a study of art history. In 2000, Tim Weigelt started a training course to become a wood sculptor at the State Vocational School for wood sculptors in Empfertshausen an der Rhön. He graduated in 2003 and changed to the FAK Schneeberg (Faculty of Applied Arts). In 2006, he finished his education with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Since then, Tim Weigelt has been working as a freelance artist. Figures, objects, exhibitions, and courses are the main point of his work, with which he has made a name for himself beyond the borders of Germany.
